A Flexicarb® MRG is a rigid laminated graphite gasket consisting of graphite layers bonded to each face of a solid steel core by a high temperature/ chemical resistant synthetic bonding agent.
While the solid steel core provides high gasket blow-out strength and rigidity, the soft graphite facings provide an exceptional gasket seal, even under low applied seating stresses.
A steel core material is selected to suit the application design conditions and the media to be sealed. A wide range of core materials are available, from the relatively low cost carbon steels through the range of stainless steels up to the "exotic" alloys. For chemical resistance and temperature stability purposes, the correct core material must always be selected. Core thickness is selected dependent upon gasket diameter or on special considerations concerning the applications flange arrangement. Standard core material is either grade 304 or 316 stainless steel.
The soft gasket facings are manufactured from Flexicarb® graphite layers, each of controlled density, in order that subsequent gasket compression can be accurately monitored. The Flexicarb® facings offer a high quality seal, high temperature stability and resistance to the majority of chemical medias.
